I grew up with horror movies, my mom being a huge fan of the Aliens series and my dad watching classic slasher movies. They also didn't really have any rules or restrictions on what we watched as children, so my sister and I both saw a variety of movies before we were old enough to even understand what was happening. However, we did both hit an age where these type of movies started to terrify us. I think the breaking point for both of us was CandyMan...mostly because of the gore and the fact we were probably under 10. There was also a goosebumps book, Night of the Living Dummy that terrified me so much that I hid it in the closet. Totally a rational response.

The next decade or so was spent with me being terrified of every horror movie or show I saw, but still watching them often, mostly with friends. I was plagued by nightmares and would hide whenever anything was remotely scary. However, this began to change after I watched The Exorcist with friends in high school. Yes, it did scare me (the first time), but I was also intrigued. I began to delved deeper and deeper into the world of horror and now, almost nothing scares me. Which is actually sad, because being scared is half the fun.
I think horror is so intriguing and fun because it allows us to face our darkest fears in a safe manner. Or maybe that is just me. I mostly like the supernatural horror: ghosts and the like. Some slashers are good, but I don't usually care for the so-called torture porn genre. I also like found footage horror...which I know isn't well received by many, but I find it makes the experience more immersive to me. Well down abduction movies still give me the wiggins, but I can watch them. This is mostly due to being subjected to Fire in the Sky and The X-Files. I have an irrational fear regarding alien abduction that has yet to abate. I also am terrified by dolls and ventriloquist dummies. So creepy.

Of course, I also read horror, watch T.V. shows and enjoy horror games and anime. I think there are so many types of horror out there and some of it is amazing, some is okay...and some is very not okay. I think it really depends on what you like. With streaming apps like Netflix, Hulu and Amazon, it's easy to watch a variety of horror from the comfort of your home.

I am going try my best to review books, games and movies, while also including lists, recommendations and other material. I am hoping to make this blog something that can be appreciated by all horror fans and maybe help them discover something new.
