The Belko Experiment Review
I had heard of this movie a while back
and was interested in checking it out. It did not seem to have any
sort of typical horror movie plot (although that matters little to
me) and had some actors I enjoyed in other projects. So, when my
roommate asked if I wanted to watch it, I jumped on the chance to
check this movie out.
If you do not know the plot, it is
basically about a group of American employees in Bogota, Columbia who
began their day in a typical manner, much like they do everyday.
However, things take a drastic turn and the employees find
themselves being told to kill 2 employees, in whatever manner, or
they face more being killed at random. The voice is ignored at
first, but the employees quickly began to learn that something
sinister is going on as the building enters lock down. Of course,
some employees debate killing the two people while others are
adamantly against it. Soon, they are all in a fight for their life,
from the random voice as well as each other. And the stakes are getting higher with each passing moment.
I never go into a horror movie with
high expectations because you just never know what you are going to
get. Some of the slickest horror movies are boring and lame while
many of the straight to Netflix types can, in fact, be quite
excellent. I can say I enjoyed this movie quite a lot. It had a few
minor bits of humor, which is always appreciated in a decent horror
movie. In addition, the actors were solid and the effects were
well-down, with the gore being just the right level to be scary
(relatively), but not so much as to be ridiculous. The movie went
quickly and I feel like the characters were genuine, as if they would
react this way to such a situation. I mean, the end twist wasn't too
unexpected, but it was well-done enough to be interesting.
I cannot say much more without giving
away too much of the plot, but I can say I would recommend it,
especially if you are into twisted horror movies about people being
their own greatest enemy and turning on each other. I would honestly
not be surprised if people reacted like this in real life to the same
situation which, to me, is the scariest part.
